Welcome to Smiles Couture  Vintage Style with Urban Flair

I’m Haleemah Smiles, yes, that’s my real name. My father says that when he held me for the very first time, I smiled, and that moment became the inspiration behind my business name.

My love for fashion began early. At just five years old, I was hand‑stitching outfits for my Barbie dolls. By eight, my family and I had moved to Los Angeles a vibrant, creative city that shaped my artistic identity and deepened my passion for vintage style.

From the hallways of Downtown Magnet High School’s Fashion Career Center to the classrooms of FIDM (Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising), I immersed myself in the world of fashion. I earned my Associate of Arts in Fashion Design, later adding a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Biola University to support my creative vision with strong business foundations.

With over 18 years of experience in the fashion industry, I’ve learned from incredible mentors and refined not only my technical skills but also my voice as a designer. Whether I’m sewing in my studio, sketching new ideas, or creating with Lacinite for our signature earrings, every piece is crafted to celebrate the woman who wears it.

My Inspiration

Smiles Couture is shaped by the rhythm of Motown, the elegance of my parents’ generation, the bold spirit of late ’90s hip hop, and the timeless beauty of 1960s and ’70s fashion. These influences come alive in every silhouette, every detail, every stitch.
